The frame was originally designed to bolt together, which was both labor intensive and expensive. In 1950 the chair was redesigned using the seamless piece of stainless steal modern reproductions still have today.

The square cushions were originally upholstered in pig skin, but later made using leather, hide and other fabrics. The cushions feature a piped leather grid and leather buttons.
