I decided that the next step in designing my chair was to make a 1:1 model using PVC electrical pipe. I bought a few meters of pipe from Bunnings, and used a hack saw to cut it up. Then to create the bends, I used my hairdryer to heat the pipe. The result was pretty awesome!
It gave me a great indication of what the final chair would look like, as well as being really useful for the guys at the workshop. I put a stool inside the frame so I could 'sit' on the chair too:
